Peter Mokaba Stadium

The new Peter Mokaba Stadium replaces a nearby existing Peter Mokaba Stadium that had significantly less seating capacity. The new stadium is one of the five that were built specifically for the World Cup and the seating capacity in the new stadium is 46,000. Another feature that is an improvement on the stadium that was replaced is the existence of a roof that surrounds the entire arena, rather than just the main stands. Good news for fans because of the winter weather the World Cup will be played in.

Both of the stadiums were named for Peter Mokaba. He was an activist in the anti-apartheid movement who served in Nelson Mandela’s government and was born and raised in the region.

The region of Limpopo boasts the highest number of register footballers in all of South Africa. The existence of a brand new stadium less than 5 km from the city centre is a gift that will not go unappreciated in the area. Even as they watch the A, C and F matches being played on their home turf.

All access routes to the stadium have been redesigned with thoughts of the World Cup in mind. The stadium is actually close enough to walk to from many hotels and bus and taxi service will make the trip for those who do not wish to foot it.
