Mbombela Stadium

Nelspruit has just completed the Mbombela Stadium, the first football stadium in the province. It was specifically built in anticipation of the 2010 World Cup and in addition to hosting football games also has an athletic center, cricket field and convention facilities to ensure future viability of the stadium in the province.

The design takes a lead from the region. In addition to making every effort to maximize the view from all seats by the shape of the structure, the designers also made it reflect the natural beauty of the area. The structural supports of the cantilevered roof are designed to resemble giraffes in homage to the nearby Kruger National Park and the abundance of wildlife that the region boasts.

Comfort for the fans that will the 43,500 seats of the newly constructed arena was not left to chance. In addition to focusing on creating great views of the games from every seat the roof was designed to cover 95% of the seats that circle the natural grass playing surface. Inclement weather may affect the playing surface but the fans will be sitting pretty.

Most World Cup fans will likely be flying in to the region and staying in hotels that will be far enough from the venue that use of the N4 motorway and car or bus service will be the best way to get to the stadium. If time and tickets that fans have acquired allow, area game preserves offer a stunning treat.
