Rustenburg

Rustenburg in the core of the savannah bushveld is a tranquil city. Located in the North West Province, situated at the foothills of the grand Magaliesburg Mountains. At the highest point the mountains are 1800 meters above sea level and have been a strategic zone for several battles for land during the early 1800s.

Wealthy with minerals and known as the platinum capital of the world the makes up the vast majority of the employment in the area.

Rustenburg is a little over 18 and half miles from Sun City, integrating The Palace of the Lost City. Some of the features on offer are hot air balloon rides, The Valley of Waves and a jungle. For people wishing to relax and chill out the Hartebeesport Dam is only about 40 minutes away from Rustenburg and a great retreat from many people.

The Bafokeng people come from the area, Bafokeng means ‘people of the dew’. Originally from the Bakwena people they set up base close to the area more than 200 years ago.

It hosts a well-built Voortrekker effect and was one of the first cities of significance in their history. Rustenburg ‘place of rest’ was named so in 1851.
