Cape Town
Cape Town also known as “The Mother City” is situated in the South of Africa and is set around stunning mountains and oceans, with the iconic Table Mountain which rises above the city and serves as a mariner’s landmark, which can be seen clearly from around 120 miles at sea.
It is claim that roughly in 100,000 BC Cape Town had its first inhabitants, when people roamed the Peninsula. Cape Town also played an important part of South Africa history in that Robben Island which was a political prison which also included Nelson Mandela.
Cape Town has produced three current top football internationals these are Benni McCarthy of Blackburn Rovers, England, Shaun Bartlett of Bloemfontein Celtic, South Africa and Quinton Fortune of AFC Tubize, Belgium and a former player of Manchester Utd, England.
Cape Town hosts a number of walking and hiking trails as well as the surrounding mountains and forests. You are spoilt with several stunning backdrops from waterfalls and ravines, whilst hosting beautiful birdlife and flora scenery in its forests.
If you are a fan of the water then Cape Town will not disappoint you with its array of water activities on offer from surfing, deep sea fishing, shark cage diving and scuba diving, all in Cape Towns beautiful blue waters.
Cape Town not only offers you underwater fun it offers it up in the sky as well. Sky diving, see the stunning Cape Town scenery from above. Hang gliding and Paragliding from stunning views such as Table Mountain, Lions Head or Signal Hill this a lifetime experience. (Note: Hand gliding and paragliding requires you to be qualified to do alone, but for those not tandem glides are available).
For those of you who prefer someone else to be doing the hard work Helicopter Trip and Hot Air Ballooning is available in order to take in the stunning views from above.
Also for those of you who prefer to let someone do the hard work in the water there are plenty of boat trips on offer. With the amazing views on offer towards Table Mountain whilst seeing the Cape Town from a whole different perspective it a terrific way to take in the surroundings.
When you need to take it easy then Cape Town can offer you some of the finest beaches in the world, from the traditional family beach in False Bay to the trendy Clifton, Atlantic Seaboard beaches a beach for everyone’s needs.
Clifton Beach
Clifton Beach is made up of 4 coves called 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th. During the busy period 4th is the most popular due to the more modern facilities available. They all offer the usual deck chair, umbrella hire but if you are planning on spending a lot of time on the beach then you are just as well to buy your own. Drinks snacks etc can usual be bought from vendors wandering the beach.
Camps Bay
Camps Bay this is a more family friendly beach due to the space available for games and sandcastle building. They all offer the usual deck chair, umbrella hire but if you are planning on spending a lot of time on the beach then you are just as well to buy your own. Kiosks and vendors operate on the beach but a very short distance from the beach cafes, restaurants, small grocery stores etc can be found.
Llandudno Beach
Llandudno Beach one of the most beautiful beaches on offer and a favorite for sundowners. The road down to the beach hosts some amazing views to wet your appetite upon arrival. The beach is more remote with no shops and poor facilities, but you do get the vendors patrolling the beach selling drinks, snacks etc. Deck chairs and umbrellas are available for hire. If you want to do a bit of surfing whilst at the beach this ofter has good surf.
False Bay
False Bay is quieter and laid back then the trendier ones. But the water in the bay is much warmer and has shallow waters going out which makes it safe and enjoyable for swimming.
Hout Bay
Hout Bay was originally a small fishing village, but now a favorite with visitors. At one end of the beach is the harbor and at the other end is the cliffs of Chapman’s Peak. If you enjoy walking then this is ideal and also a favorite with surfers and paddle skiers.
Noordhoek and Kommetjie
Noordhoek and Kommetjie the scenic drive will bring you the long white stretch of sand at Noordhoek beach. Popular with walkers, horse riding and kite flying.
Bloubergstrand Beaches
Bloubergstrand Beaches offers the signature picture of Table Mountain across the sweeping bay. These beaches are popular with families. Ideal for long walks, picnics and evening sundowners. The beaches are also a great whale watching viewpoint.
Helderberg Beaches
Helderberg Beaches quite a further from Cape Town than the others roughly 45 minutes drive. This coastline offers amazing views across False Bay with the Peninsula in the distance. Cafe’s, restaurants etc are available at various points by the beaches. It is also a very popular location for the sunbathers.
