Flights to South Africa

As would be expected, flights to South Africa during the World Cup will be both pricey and booked early. In addition to the international airports in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, there are numerous municipal airports throughout the country that can ease the trouble of getting to distant matches.

For those who do not obtain their tickets until the last minute stage, flying directly into South Africa may be difficult. The solution is to fly into Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia or Botswana and take a local municipal flight into South Africa. Both countries have airports that are near the north east end of South Africa where the majority of the matches are being played.

The 7,000 mile flight will leave you slightly tired but the time zone change is only two hours. Remember to pack up the suitcases with mild winter weather in mind. June averages about 16C during the day and 8C at night with a typical monthly rainfall of 8.4cm. Airport lines are expected to be quite long and early airport arrival when departing is a good idea, especially if luggage is being checked. Taxis are expected to be abundant at all South African airports during the tournament so after the 11 hour flight arriving at the hotel should not take long.
