South African World Cup Stadiums

Some of South Africa's 10 football stadiums which have been picked for world cup stadiums will have to undergo major renovations for 2010 World Cup: Ellis Park and Soccer City in Johannesburg, the Royal Bafokeng stadium in Mafikeng in North West province, Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria and the Free State Stadium also know as the Vodacom Park in Bloemfontein in the Free State. The Peter Mokaba stadium in Polokwane in Limpopo will undergo a major upgrade.

New stadiums will be built at Mbombela in Mpumalanga (Scheduled completition date July 2007) in the Nelson Mandela Metro (Scheduled completion date: December 2007) in the Eastern Cape. King Senzangakhona Stadium in Durban will be rebuilt. Cape Town is struggeling at the moment to finance the new Green Point stadium even though it "posed the lowest risk with regard to affordability, long-term sustainability and time constraints". Both, the Kings Park and Green Point stadium will become completely new multi-sport facilities. Green Point will get a dome to protect fans and players alike from Cape Towns unpredictable winter weather.
